funeral song

This can be a fairly morbid subject, depending on how you look at it.
But since today is a blackout day, protesting the SOPA,
I figured I can dive in to a dark subject.

My whole life, everyone in my family had their "funeral song" picked out.
I.e. the song you feel best represents your life and what you want played at your funeral.
My grandmother wanted "My Way" by Frank Sinatra,
my dad chose "Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff
and my mom chose "Shower the People You Love With Love" by James Taylor.
When I was little I chose "Bye Bye Baby" by Franki Valli and the Four Seasons
(and just about lost it when it was a character's funeral song in the movie Love Actually.)
At some point during adulthood, I added "Cosmic Dancer" by T. Rex,
because I felt it suited my life much, much better.
But hell, it's my funeral, I can have two songs, right?

So my question to you, blog friend, is
what song would you choose?

  1. Rocket Man by Elton John. I'm not planning to have a funeral but if I did, that would be my song! I just ask my husband; I'm curious to see what he says (he's a no funeral person too, so this isn't something we'll actually use).

  2. Great question! I've always wanted I Am Kloot's The same deep water as me (http://youtu.be/oQhmQQZUjdo) My dad has requested The long and winding road by The Beatles and my mum wants My Immortal by Evanescence!

  5. as much as I'm trying to think of something else, I keep thinking: Always look on the bright side of life by Monty Python. Or the song Andy Kaufman sang via video recording on his own funeral. Milk and cookies anyone? :)

  6. What a great question! "Cosmic Dancer" is an awesome choice. I never really thought about that. I like the idea of my funeral being a celebration (I plan on living long and well), but sad songs are the ones I like best. I choose "Dream" by Priscilla Ahn.
